Sculpture, Digital art, VR – 2023

This exhibition was created in a space called ADADA in Saint-Denis next to Paris. The installation consists of a sculptural work, inspired by the building and the history of its surroundings, as well as a VR element. Using a headset, viewers are projected into a reproduction of the exhibition room in which they are physically located. This invites us to question our relationship with digital spaces, and why our sense of wonder might be triggered by simply being placed back into the world from which we were trying to escape. In fact, the digital reproduction of the space is not an exact replica but includes some features of decay. This laborious copy creates a particular aesthetic, supporting the feeling of being faced with a digital ruin lost in time. This aesthetic invites us to reflect on the future of our virtual content, which today can be seen as an integral part of our experience of reality. This project was inspired by Sabine Forrero-Mendoza’s book Le temps des Ruines (The Time of Ruins), which considers a possible emergence of man from a mythological perception of his environment in the 14th century, through the consideration of past ruins. What will become of us when the digital traces of our time have been erased to make way for the unfolding future?
